Apply Now
Applications are now closed for Summer 2023. If you have any questions about the hiring process, or about the fellowship, please reach out to us at specialprojects@rethinkpriorities.org.
Who we are looking for
Anyone can apply to the fellowship, though we expect it to be most useful to students (from undergraduates to postgraduates) and early-career individuals looking to test their fit for existential risk research. We particularly encourage undergraduates to apply, to develop their research experience.
As outlined in our theory of change, we are looking to fund proactive people who have high potential to do impactful work in the future. This could include generalists, entrepreneurs, technical people, and others from a wide range of subject areas. Candidates will be assessed both on ability to contribute to the existential risk research community and motivation to reduce existential risks.
Timeline of process
The first stage of the application process consists of a form containing essay-style questions aimed to test your fit for existential risk mitigation research and your motivation to work in this area. Please submit an application by 5 April 23:59 Eastern Daylight Time. This will be the main portion of the application process.
We will evaluate applications on a rolling basis and applicants who progress to the next stage will be invited for a short interview. All successful applicants will be notified by mid/late April. From April-May we will work with successful applicants to develop their project ideas and pair them with mentors.
We hope to accept 20-25 fellows.
